AI Act implementation pending; revised consultation planned for autumn 2026AI Laws in Norway
Norway participates in the EEA, but the EU AI Act is not yet Norwegian law. On August 4, 2026, the government said it would send a revised KI-loven proposal to consultation in autumn 2026 and target a bill for spring 2027 while EEA incorporation and adaptations continue. Existing technology-neutral rules, including privacy, criminal and copyright law, already govern AI use. The EU's revised high-risk dates therefore must not be presented as current Norwegian statutory deadlines before the regulation is incorporated and the Norwegian act enters into force.
Applicable laws
Penalty: No AI-specific Norwegian penalty applies until the implementing act is enacted. Existing data-protection, criminal and copyright rules remain enforceable when AI is used.
